As far as I know only registered educational institutions may obtain an .edu extension. No one else can. So you need to be registered with one of those in order to obtain a student e-mail address. Establishments that require you to pay in order to use an e-mail address like that can't be legit and there's an excellent chance they won't work when you are using it to get student discounts on the Internet. Either you are a legitimate student from a legitimate educational institution or not - you can't buy in. You have to be legally and legitimately subscribed to a legally and legitimately owned educational institution in order to qualify for Internet discounts.

Not even high schools, middle schools, etc. can obtain those types of domains. It is only colleges. If you are currently enrolled in a college or university, you might want to find an IT person and talk to them about accessing the student email resources.

My advice would be to register as a student on another education portal. I did it to get free Windows licenses. Not sure if I can post the link here so message me.

there are some schools you can simply register without adding any courses, and you can get an edu email that way. just check around the ones in your area, particularly the community colleges.

Most educational institutions have the ability to do this. Speak to your IT manager or one of the senior staff members at whatever educational institution you're at. They should be able to sort something. I had this with my college and they fixed it for me!
